FAQs
WhY should i choose a dietitian over a personal trainer who offers nutrition advice or a NUTRITIONIST?
Great question, I’d love to tell you. A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) has both a degree (or multiple; needing a Bachelor’s degree or higher) in the realm of dietetics or nutrition from an accredited university, at least 1200 hours of supervised practice by means of an internship, and has passed a rigorous exam covering all facets of the field. This ensures we have the education and experience to provide you with the most up-to-date research and information possible. Depending on the state you live in, “nutritionist” can be a broad and unprotected term, not really telling you much about the person’s background or knowledge. Some may be great and have the information you need, but having those credentials keeps you as the client more safe.
Coaching seems expensive…why is it worth it?
I’ll be real with you…even I have a coach! I am fully capable of making my own programming for my fitness journey, but the fact of the matter is that I need accountability. Even if I know what to do, it is so beneficial to have someone else who is more knowledgable than me on the subject and who can hold me accountable for the days I fall short and help me realize my accomplishments on the days I should be proud of myself. You don’t have to do this alone! There will be hard days and there will be easy days, and I am here to make those hard days more manageable.
I’m Super busy and Don’t have the time to meal prep and do all these crazy things…can I still lose weight?
Absolutely! Weight loss is a science and (primarily) a balance of the nutrients we take in and the energy we expend (although SO much more goes into it. As much as fast food or convenience foods are demonized in our society, there are healthier options out there when you are in a crunch. This is the reason I chose to call this “Balance Nutrition”. Not everything is going to be ideal all of the time. We need to find balance between the chaos and the calm and keep our health in the forefront of our minds at all times.
Do I have to weigh myself?
Not necessarily! Weight can be good indicator of whether we are trending in the right direction or your body is responding to our plan, but there are so many others that we can use. We can use non-scale victories such as your pants fitting better or your family members noticing a change in how healthy your skin looks. We can even take body measurements along the way if that would be more beneficial to you. If all of those options sound daunting, we can even just go based off of how you feel; the energy you have, your mental health, your confidence, your sleep, etc. Your weight is not a direct indication of your health and it should not be a measure that you base your self-worth or progress on.
is there a contract?
Nope! I’m here for you as long as you need me and I’m happy to let you spread your wings and fly if you feel like you’ve learned what you needed or life takes you in a different direction. As I charge monthly, whatever month you decide to make your last is up to you!
